🌍✨ On Friday, October 25th, the fourth graders at East Elementary virtually traveled to Ghana, Africa! During this time, our students had live learning interactions with Ghanaian students. 💟 We learned about their favorite foods, music, sports, and holidays. 🌙🌳 CWMS Moon Tree Planting 🌙🌳 On Friday, October 25, Conrad Weiser Middle School received a “Moon Tree” from NASA. 🚀We are just one of a few hundred locations in the United States that had the honor of planting this tree on our campus. The ceremony included a special performance from the CWMS Select Chorus and several speakers. 🤔 What is a Moon Tree? In 1971, the Apollo 14 mission to the Moon carried a variety of tree seeds with them on their voyage. Once they returned to Earth, the United States Forest Service (USFS) germinated and cared for the seedlings until they were ready to be distributed across the country. Many of the original Moon Trees still stand today! In 2022, the Artemis 1 mission traveled around the Moon with more tree seeds, which were also germinated and cared for by the USFS. The Moon Tree will stand tall in front of CWMS as a testament to our nation’s ingenuity, curiosity, and perseverance. Let it be an inspiration to all of our future scientists and stewards of our land! 🖼️🎨📸 On Friday, October 25, Duane Abel visited CW West Elementary to showcase his characters and drawings to our students! He encouraged students to establish goals, learn to love reading, and value their education. Abel has an extreme passion for illustration, and after creating the character “ZED”, he was offered a book contract. ❤️‍🩹👩‍⚕️ Earlier this week, our school nurses attended a conference and met Garry Gilliam Jr., former NFL player, and inspiring speaker! 🏈 He shared his journey from a tough childhood to his success in the NFL, highlighting his education at the Milton Hershey School and Penn State University, and how a knee injury changed his path. 🗣️ The former NFL player went on to discuss how he wanted to help others and make a change after retiring. CWHS nurse Cindy Rumpf says, “It was very inspiring to hear how passionate he is about giving back to the community”.
